Practical Programs, Built for Real Progress

Every program at Durham Institute is designed around applied skills learners can use in study, work and everyday professional life.

Computer Skills

This program is built around the digital tasks learners actually encounter at school, at work and in daily life — from navigating an operating system with confidence to producing clear documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Sessions favour hands-on practice over theory, so learners leave each class able to apply what they covered right away.

  • Operating systems, file management and everyday troubleshooting
  • Word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software
  • Email, online communication and basic workplace software tools
  • Digital literacy foundations for further study or employment

English Language

Learners build the English skills they need for real situations — conversations at work, written communication, and the reading and listening demands of academic settings. Classes balance structured language instruction with practical speaking and writing practice.

  • Spoken English for everyday and workplace communication
  • Reading and writing practice for academic and professional contexts
  • Vocabulary and grammar development at a practical pace
  • Confidence-building through structured conversation practice

Construction Project Management

This program introduces the planning and coordination work behind construction projects — how schedules are built, how tasks and trades are coordinated, and how a project is tracked from start to finish. The emphasis is on practical project-management thinking that applies directly to real construction work.

  • Project planning, scheduling and sequencing fundamentals
  • Coordinating tasks, trades and resources on a job site
  • Reading and working with project documentation and timelines
  • Practical tools and habits used in construction project tracking

Professional Development

Beyond our core programs, Durham Institute offers additional professional development training aimed at strengthening the everyday skills that support career growth — communication, workplace organization and applied problem-solving. Content is adapted to practical, real-world application.

  • Workplace communication and professional presentation
  • Time management and task organization
  • Applied problem-solving for everyday work situations
  • Ongoing skill-building alongside core programs
