About Us

About Durham Institute

Durham Institute is an Oshawa-based educational institute focused on practical education, professional development and career-oriented learning. We work with students, professionals and adult learners who want to build skills that apply directly to study, work and everyday life.

Our programs are shaped around practical outcomes rather than abstract theory — learners spend their time developing skills they can use, whether that means becoming more comfortable with everyday computer tasks, communicating more confidently in English, understanding how construction projects are planned and coordinated, or strengthening broader professional skills.

Durham Institute was founded by Hasan Ahmed, who serves as Founder & Director.

Our Mission

To provide accessible, practical and relevant education that helps learners build the skills they need for study, work and professional growth.

Our Approach

We keep instruction focused and hands-on. Programs are structured around practical tasks and real-world application, so learners build skills through practice rather than theory alone, at a pace that respects the demands of work, family and daily life.

Our Learning Philosophy

We believe learning should be practical, respectful of learners’ time, and directly useful. Every program is designed with a simple question in mind: what skill will this help a learner apply tomorrow, at work, in a classroom, or in daily life? That question guides how we structure lessons, choose examples and support learners as they build confidence.
